Science Question:
Is there liquid water on Mars specifically in the Nili Fossae/Isidis Planitia region?
Main Results:
Focusing our search onto Martian clays and the clay minerals contained therein (as well as the hydrated sulfates, olivine, and pyroxene in the Nili Fossae region). The results of this survey revealed that most of the clays and clay minerals (as well as olivine and pyroxene) in the Nili Fossae region, are contained within the largest trough by the Isidis Basin. By having a THEMIS or CRISM picture of this area, much more could be revealed about the region, and it could then be definitely proven that this area's clays show signs of an ancient presence of liquid water.
