Science Question:
“What side of the volcano Arsia Mons and Elysium Mons has more craters: north, south, east, or west?”
Main Results:
1. Elysium had more craters (small, medium, and large) than Arsia. Elysium also had more preserved (younger) craters than Arsia by 37%, no destroyed craters- implying that the composition is difficult to erode (lava flow), requiring more time to erode or cover-up. Arsia Mons had fewer craters (younger), but had more modified and destroyed craters (older)…making it easier to erode (ash flow).

2. Our team concluded Elysium Mons has more craters in the southeast quadrant based a sample count of small, medium, and large craters in each quadrant.

3. We believed that the craters will be primarily on the south side of both volcanoes. We support our hypothesis, because the data confirms that most crater impacts occur on the southern portion of both Arsia and Elysium.
