Science Question:
What evidence is there of erosion of volcanoes on Mars?
Main Results:
1) Our scientific investigation showed that there were several types of erosion occurring on volcanoes on Mars.

2) The most common type of erosion on the volcanoes was mass wasting. There were two types of mass wasting that were the most prevalent. 1) The collapse of the caldera that resulted in the accumulation of soil inside the crater floor. 2) The collapse of a volcanoes lava tube resulting in the formation of linear features similar to small valleys.

3) We found limited evidence of water erosion in and around the volcanoes. There was some evidence that water erosion did affect the volcanoes by the formation of gullies on the inside of a few calderas. Evidence suggests this may have occurred when the sunlight warmed the permafrost below the surface of the Martian soil, causing brief releases of water that formed the gullies.
