The
on-site formats of activites, will occur at the Mars Space Flight Facility
on the campus of Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ. These investigations
will involve student teams who have been selected to image the Martian
surface as part of their proposed research project. This format allows
students to be present to view their image as it comes down from the
spacecraft and learn techniques they will use to analyze that image.
Students will also learn peer tutoring techniques to be able to conduct
presentations for other students from their team that were unable to
travel to ASU.
Distance-learning
Format:
Student
distance-learning investigations nationwide, led by MSIP staff are conducted
using Internet-conferencing and teleconferencing. Students involved
in this format will proceed as with the on-site format, but all activities
will take place at each individual teams facility. Students will
need access to 1 or more Internet capable computers, a small Internet
webcam (which can typically be purchased for around $30) and Adobe Photoshop®.
Archived-data
Format:
Archived-data
investigations led by classroom teachers are primarily for student teams
whose proposals were not selected for the on-site or distance-learning
formats or for those student teams who wish to work independently at
their own pace. The student teams will be issued a previously-taken
image of Mars appropriate for their projects. In this way students are
able to complete the comprehensive MSIP curriculum in an effective and
engaging way. Only email interaction will be provided, and teams will
be given access to the on-line curricular resources provided by the
project.
